The HVIA National Apprentice Challenge has long been a key initiative staged at the Brisbane Truck Show; in 2021 it will be taken to new heights with the competition to be held in front of live audiences at a new BTS Jobs Hub at South Bank Piazza.
It is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for heavy vehicle mechanical apprentices at any stage of their study.
In recent years the event’s kudos has grown substantially with an impressive number of apprentices lining up for the honour of representing their national region.
The 2019 event attracted a record field of entries and it looks like that record will be broken again for 2021. Once again the entries are pouring in from right across the country.
Nominees undertake a detailed exam to qualify. Based on the results, teams of two apprentices will be selected to represent each of HVIA’s three national regions:
- Eastern Region – QLD, NSW & ACT
- Southern Region – VIC, TAS & SA
- North/Western Region – NT & WA
The prizes are hugely attractive with the successful team winning a fully hosted trip to the V8 Supercars up for grabs. They enjoy full corporate treatment, including pit lane tours and a whole lot more.
Each regional team works on one of two identical Isuzu FX-series prime movers to identify and rectify a series of programmed faults as the clock ticks.
The winning regional team will receive a fully paid return airfares, 3 nights accommodation and Saturday and Sunday admission tickets to attend the SUPERCARS Vodafone GOLD COAST 500 in December 2021, proudly supported by National Transport Insurance (NTI) and Truck Assist.
All finalists will receive tool prizes courtesy of Warby Tools.
The event is staged by HVIA with tremendous long term support from National Transport Insurance, Warby Tools and TAFE Queensland SkillsTech. This year Isuzu Trucks have come on board to supply the prime movers that will be the centre of the competition.
